One way to endear yourself to Arsenal fans is to score against Tottenham.

The Gunners and Spurs are bitter north London rivals – and have been ever since Arsenal moved into that territory from Woolwich.

Over the years, the likes of Thierry Henry have achieved legend status in N5 for their efforts against Tottenham – with the iconic Frenchman scoring five goals and providing two assists in his 11 north London derby appearances, never losing to Spurs.

Now, another Frenchman in Hugo Ekitike – a target for Arsenal – has troubled Tottenham too.

Hugo Ekitike nets stunner against Tottenham after Arsenal enter talks to sign him

The man from Reims scored a remarkable goal to put Eintracht Frankfurt 1-0 up against Tottenham in the UEFA Europa League quarter-final, with just six minutes on the clock.

After witnessing the strike, Joe Hart – who was on commentary duty for TNT Sports – said: “Hugo Ekitike looks so dangerous, he looks like he’s full of confidence. Devastating finish into the bottom corner. There’s no stopping that, it’s absolute perfection. Poor from Tottenham. They’re up against it from the off.”

TBR Football understand Arsenal have held talks to sign Ekitike after travelling to scout the 22-year-old on several occasions this season, even watching him score three goals to fire the France U21 side to a 5-3 win over England U21s.

The Eintracht Frankfurt No.11 has now bagged 20 goals in 41 appearances at club level across all competitions with his excellent effort against Tottenham, which could well alert others to his capabilities, making it more difficult for Arsenal to sign him.

Ekitike is said to be viewed as a more attainable target than the likes of Alexander Isak, with Eintracht Frankfurt believed to be open to bids upwards of £50m.

The Gunners are admirers of Viktor Gyokeres too, although Andrea Berta – the new Director of Football at the Emirates Stadium – is believed to have watched Ollie Watkins, Dusan Vlahovic, Jonathan David, Victor Osimhen, Moises Kean, Mateo Retegui, Samu Aghehowa and Victor Boniface as well.

Therefore, if talks to sign Ekitike collapse, Arsenal have plenty of options to fall back on.
