Arsenal were moments away from securing one of their biggest results in recent memory with Manchester City leaving it late to equalise against the Gunners.

John Stones broke hearts across north London with a 98th-minute goal to see Arsenal and City share the points at the Etihad Stadium, a game that Mikel Arteta’s side spent the entire second-half playing with just ten men on the field.

With Jurrien Timber lauded by Gary Neville, though, it’s clear that Arsenal put in another titanic defensive performance given who they were up against, even with Gabriel Magalhães and William Saliba criticised for their error in allowing Erling Haaland to score.

And Jamie Carragher has now taken a dig at an Arsenal player for what they did vs City.

Leandro Trossard slammed after second yellow card incident vs Manchester City

Speaking on the Gary Neville Podcast, the pundit was critical of Leandro Trossard and how the Arsenal winger was sent off against City for a second bookable offence that could have been avoided by the Belgian international.

Trossard was given his marching orders after elbowing Bernardo Silva in the air which was followed by kicking the ball away once the whistle had been blown for a foul, the second time this season Arsenal have had a player sent off for a similar incident.

With Michael Owen also slamming Trossard for his actions, the unanimous decision from pundits seems to be that the Arsenal forward was right to be sent off against City on Sunday, with Carragher joining the bandwagon.

Carragher said on the incident: “I think Trossard knew what he was doing. But he thought the whistle had only just gone, maybe a second before, I can get away with this one. But the way he kicked it the way as well. I mean, it’s still going. He put his foot right through it, it was daft.”

Trossard knew what he was doing was wrong in the moment

Trossard’s sending-off was completely avoidable, with the Arsenal winger fully aware that he was doing in the moment was wrong and that he was about to let his team down in what was an emotionally charged match.

With Arsenal forced to play with ten men for the second-half, Trossard’s dismissal could have been the difference between a historic win at the Etihad or a crushing late equaliser scored by Stones, the timeline we all eventually ended up at.

Indeed, Trossard knows he’s let his team down with his avoidable second yellow card, and Arsenal fans will hope that the Belgian makes up for his actions in future games this season with the title race now wide open.
