Nigerian talents Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey played pivotal roles for Fulham as they secured a historic Carabao Cup semifinal spot, defeating Everton in a penalty shootout.
The match ended 1-1 after 90 minutes, with Michael Keane scoring for Fulham on 41 minutes and Beto equalizing for Everton on 82 minutes. Fulham emerged victorious, winning 7-6 on penalties.
The match proceeded directly to a penalty shootout, with Amadou Onana having the opportunity to secure a 5-3 lead for Everton and clinch the win after Jordan Pickford saved Decordova-Reid’s attempt. Regrettably, Onana’s weak shot was stopped by former Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno.
In sudden-death, Senegal’s Idrissa Gueye had his kick saved, while Tosin Adarabioyo converted, propelling Fulham into the semi-finals.
In another quarter-final clash, Chelsea narrowly defeated Newcastle United on penalties to advance to the semi-finals. Callum Wilson gave Newcastle the lead in the 16th minute, but Mykhailo Mudryk’s 92nd-minute goal forced the game into penalties, where Chelsea emerged victorious with a 4-2 scoreline.
