Gary Neville has claimed he’s never seen a defender make as many blocks or interceptions as one Tottenham Hotspur player does.

It proved to be a disappointing afternoon for Tottenham at Anfield as they gave themselves a mountain to climb following a poor opening 60 minutes.

Ange Postecoglou’s men were four goals behind at the hour mark after a lacklustre display in Merseyside.

The Aussie boss decided to make some changes after the fourth goal, with Oliver Skipp, James Maddison and Richarlison all introduced.

Spurs improved dramatically thereafter and threatened to mount a surprise comeback after goals from Richarlison and Heung-min Son.

It proved to be too late for Tottenham and Postecoglou’s men suffered a fourth consecutive defeat in the Premier League.

Despite the result, one Spurs star seems to have impressed Gary Neville.

Neville stunned after watching Cristian Romero

Tottenham were under the cosh for large spells before deciding to turn up from the hour mark onwards.

It led to Spurs’ defenders having plenty to do at the back and Cristian Romero made several vital tackles.

And speaking on Sky Sports, Neville admitted he’s never seen a defender who manages as many blocks and interceptions as Romero.

“I’ve never seen a defender make as many blocks or interceptions as Romero. He’s literally a magnet for the ball,” the Manchester United legend said.

Incidentally, Romero made yet another block just moments after Neville’s comments. This time it was to make up for a mistake though as the Argentine gifted the ball to Liverpool before blocking Harvey Elliott’s effort on goal.

Romero’s stats vs Liverpool

Postecoglou has lauded Romero of late and feels the Argentine has enjoyed an ‘unbelievable season’.

He barely put a foot wrong at Anfield today and was Tottenham’s highest-rated defender, according to statistics site Sofascore.

Romero is certainly one player who can hold his head high during a difficult run for Tottenham.

The £42 million man was named as the club’s vice-captain last summer and barring his red card against Chelsea back in November, he’s been a reliable performer for Postecoglou.
