Brentford’s head coach, Thomas Frank, has suggested the club’s openness to a potential transfer of Ivan Toney, the prolific Premier League striker.
While Toney is currently serving an eight-month ban for betting regulation breaches, he has left a significant mark on the Premier League.
In the 2022/23 season, Toney joined an exclusive club of three players, including Harry Kane and Erling Haalad, who scored over 20 goals. Since his transfer to Brentford from Peterborough United in 2020, Toney has consistently excelled, sparking discussions about his future at Gtech Community Stadium.
During a recent appearance on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, Coach Frank acknowledged that Brentford is a ‘selling club,’ implying that offers for Toney would be considered. He stressed the importance of timing and the right price when selling players who have developed with the club.
Frank praised Toney’s striking ability, saying, ‘I think he is one of the best strikers. As a number nine, I don’t see many in the world that are better than him. You have [Harry] Kane, [Robert] Lewandowski, these types, but not many.’
Frank emphasized Toney’s goal-scoring prowess and suggested that in a top team, he could easily net 20 to 25 goals a season. However, he acknowledged that top strikers come at a premium in today’s market.
Recent reports have linked Chelsea to Toney, as they seek a solution to their striker struggles. Toney’s childhood affinity for Liverpool and admiration for Arsenal have fueled speculation about his future destination. While Liverpool has shown no interest, Arsenal has been monitoring the situation, although they may hold off on pursuing a new striker unless faced with injury issues, with Dusan Vlahovic as a more attainable target.”
