Liverpool have a bit of work to do in the summer in order to fine-tune a team that can go all the way in multiple competitions next season.

The Reds were in contention for four major trophies for much of the campaign, but it looks as though the Carabao Cup will be the only addition to the cabinet in 2023/24.

With Arne Slot taking the reins and Richard Hughes coming in as sporting director, Liverpool and FSG will have a busy summer looking at how best to shape their team ahead of 2024/25.

One Reds player who could find himself under scrutiny in the off-season and pre-season is Darwin Nunez, whose recent displays haven’t exactly showcased the best of him.

Although Nunez has made a name for himself as an ‘agent of chaos’, he’s still missing too many chances and finding himself offside far too often.

However, a recent report in the Daily Mail claimed Liverpool aren’t looking to offload the £140,000-a-week forward just yet.

Lewis Steele claimed that “there is no indication that Liverpool are in a hurry to give up on Nunez after just two seasons.”

Now, talkSPORT pundit Darren Bent has given his verdict on the £85million man, and he’s optimistic about his chances going forward.

Bent said on talkSPORT (7/5/2024, 4:43pm): “I really like him. I think he makes good runs. I know sometimes he is offside, but power. If I was a centre-half, I wouldn’t want to play against him.”

When asked if Liverpool should sell Nunez if they get the fee they paid for him, Bent said: “I would give him another year. I really would. I think he will come good, I really do.”

Liverpool have invested a lot in Nunez and the makings of a top striker are there, although there’s no doubt that there’s still a lot of work to do in terms of his finishing.
