Former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has admitted he still misses life in the Old Trafford dugout.

Ferguson built a reputation as one of the greatest managers of all time during a 27-year tenure at United which yielded 13 Premier League titles and two Champions Leagues, before walking away from the post and retiring in 2013.

Still associated with the club behind the scenes, Ferguson has confessed that he still thinks about his time as manager.

“I miss it sometimes,” he told BBC Breakfast. “I think the first year after retirement, I went to the European final and I said to [his late wife] Cathy: ‘This is what I miss – big games, the European games’.

“So then I went to most of the European finals because I find something in it I can relate to, something I would liked to have done every day. Because these are the big events that a club like United should always be involved in.”

United continue to strive for a return to the heights reached under Ferguson. David Moyes, Louis van Gaal, Jose Mourinho, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and now Erik ten Hag have all taken charge since his retirement 11 years ago.
