Gary Neville has shared the fear he now has for the Premier League title race after both Arsenal and Manchester City secured impressive wins over the weekend.

Arsenal remain top of the Premier League table, and they managed to put the pressure on Pep Guardiola‘s side by beating Bournemouth 3-0 on Saturday lunchtime.

However, Manchester City responded with an emphatic 5-1 victory over Wolves in the evening, with Erling Haaland, ominously, scoring four times against Gary O’Neil’s men at the Etihad Stadium.

That leaves a one point gap heading into the final couple of weeks of the campaign, with Arsenal ahead of a Manchester City side which has a game in hand.

It is City who play next, when they take on Fulham at Craven Cottage. Meanwhile, Arsenal travel to Old Trafford to face Manchester United, in what could be a fascinating game given how unpredictable Erik ten Hag’s side can be this season.

Should Arsenal drop points against United, Manchester City could potentially wrap the title up before the final day of the campaign. And speaking on The Gary Neville Podcast, Gary Neville suggested that he is concerned for Mikel Arteta‘s side as the Manchester City machine starts to reach top gear.

“It (the title race) may go down to the final day, and if it went to the final day, that would mean Arsenal have gone and beaten Manchester United at Old Trafford, which we can laugh and we can giggle about how Manchester United have been, but Arsenal going to Old Trafford and winning, that’s going to be a hell of a win,” he said.

“So, yeah, I have the fear that the title could be over a week on Tuesday when in terms of sort of the neutrals, I am neutral when it comes to it, I don’t support City or Arsenal, but I want the title race to go to the final day, obviously. My fear is that it won’t if City win against Fulham on Saturday, which I think they will, and that United take points off Arsenal on Sunday.

“Because I think if Arsenal go the last day of the season and they have beaten Manchester United, this is a massive increase in sort of performance level. It is anyway, Arsenal have already proven that they are a different side than last season, but it just feels like there is an inevitability to it that City will just be perfect towards the end or to the end.”

Gunners have already proved point after last year

Arsenal have definitely taken a big step forward from last year. They had a real wobble as the finishing line started to emerge on the horizon last season, and that made life a lot easier for City.

This time around, the Gunners have dropped points in just two Premier League games in 2024; and they have won their last four, keeping three clean sheets along the way.

Arsenal look to be ready to push Manchester City the entire way this season. It is out of Arsenal’s hands at this stage, but two wins from their last two is a very realistic target.

Should they do it, City have no other option than to be absolutely perfect.
