Arne Slot looks set to become Liverpool’s next manager.

The Dutchman could reportedly be announced as the Reds’ new manager before the end of the week, and, of course, a change of manager comes with a change of vision.

Slot will have a plan in mind for what he wants his Liverpool team to look like going forwards, and in order to make that vision a reality, he may need some signings.

Unfortunately though, it sounds as though this won’t be a big-spending summer for The Reds.

Indeed, according to David Powell, speaking on The Debrief, Liverpool don’t have a huge warchest waiting for Arne Slot this summer.

Liverpool don’t have tons of money to spend

Powell shared what he knows about the Reds’ spending power heading into the summer.

“It’s not easy to know exactly where to put your pennies this summer if you’re Liverpool because I don’t think they have a huge warchest for Arne Slot to go out to spend, I think he will have the ability to add in key areas, but I don’t think it will be an enormous spend,” Powell said.

Where has Liverpool’s money gone?

It’s somewhat surprising to hear this about Liverpool’s transfer budget.

The Reds have qualified for Champions League football next season, giving their coffers a serious boost, while there should be a pot of unspent cash waiting for Slot from last summer as well.

Let’s not forget, Liverpool bid £111m for Moises Caicedo last summer, and while that deal didn’t go through, that money hasn’t gone anywhere – Wataru Endo was signed as the alternative to Caicedo for just £15m.

Of course, football accountancy isn’t that simple, but after showing a lot of financial ambition last summer, it’s surprising to hear that Liverpool won’t have tons to spend this time around.
