Simon Jordan has shared what some are saying about Tottenham Hotspur that he finds silly as the end of the first season under Ange Postecoglou reaches a conclusion.

It has been an eventful campaign for Spurs. It is definitely easy to forget now where Tottenham were 12 months ago with Ryan Mason acting as the interim manager to the interim manager.

The club saw out those final weeks like a side who could not wait to see the back of the campaign, and there were huge question marks over which direction they would go in over the summer.

Ange Postecoglou arrived and immediately managed to transform the playing style, with Tottenham proving to be the team to watch in the opening weeks of the season, with Spurs leading the way in the Premier League for some time.

However, injuries and a loss of form around the turn of the year have seen Tottenham drop out of the top-four in the league. And heading into their clash with Burnley at the weekend, Spurs had lost their previous four games.

That form has definitely taken some of the shine off of the campaign. But, speaking on talkSPORT, Simon Jordan has insisted that Tottenham can be content with the progress they have made.

“What I will say, and everyone will say, ‘oh, it’s Simon Jordan defending Daniel Levy’, Tottenham Hotspur spent £240 million on players last summer. That’s what they spent, I don’t know how you argue that, whether that’s badly spent money and who’s responsibility that is. But if you’re suggesting that Tottenham Hotspur weren’t trying to give their manager support to give him the opportunity, people like Brennan Johnson who’s clearly not at that level at this moment in time, they might be,” he said.

“But I actually think, irrespective of the last four games’ results, Tottenham finishing fifth in the league with a complete pivot in the way that they’ve played, a loss of their biggest player, is actually a pretty commendable achievement.

“And I think everything else is just a silly narrative.”

Pressure likely to be on next season

Tottenham have definitely brought in a number of players over the last 12 months, but they did also sell Harry Kane, which would have boosted their transfer kitty quite considerably.

Postecoglou’s position may come under greater scrutiny next year, when fans will be expecting to see progress from what looks set to be a fifth place finish in the table.

But considering that Kane left so late in the day in the summer, Tottenham have done brilliantly to bounce back and show such potential.
