Adrian Clarke has suggested that he is such a big fan of one Arsenal player who is actually extremely understated after the Gunners’ win over Bournemouth at the weekend.

Mikel Arteta has generally relied on the same core of players throughout the season to help put the Gunners top of the Premier League table.

Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba have formed surely the best centre-back partnership in the Premier League, while Declan Rice has been a machine in the middle of the park.

Martin Odegaard has been one of the players of the season, while Bukayo Saka and Kai Havertz are into double figures for league goals this term.

But another player has definitely stepped up as Arsenal look to pile the pressure on Manchester City, with four goals in his last six league appearances.

Leandro Trossard the unsung hero for Arsenal

Leandro Trossard has only started 16 games in the top-flight this term, and has found the back of the net 11 times in the league. And he has now managed to score eight times since the turn of the year as Arsenal put their foot firmly on the accelerator.

Speaking on Handbrake Off, Adrian Clarke suggested that the Belgian probably deserves a lot more credit.

“He’s a classy player, Trossard, really good, hardworking, team player as well, we saw that at the weekend, where he scampers back and wins it back,” he said.

“I really like Trossard, because he’s so understated, yet lethal. And I think you want lethal players, don’t you, I think we all want a lethal finisher in our team.”

Certainly, the deal to sign Trossard surely has to be considered one of the shrewdest Arsenal have done in recent years.

The Gunners paid £27 million to sign the 29-year-old from Brighton. He has since gone on to be directly involved in 29 goals in 66 games in all competitions, and that is despite Trossard hardly being a regular starter during his time with the club.

At a time when Arsenal do lack a 25-goal a season striker, it is imperative that their other players contribute, and Trossard has more than played his part.
