Wayne Rooney has described former teammate Nemanja Vidic as a ‘nightmare’ during their time at Manchester United together.

Nemanja Vidic remains one of the greatest defenders we’ve seen during the Premier League era. The Serbian defender was snapped up for a £7 million fee by Manchester United back in 2006.

Before leaving United seven and a half years later, Vidic scooped five Premier League titles, as well as a Champions League crown and three domestic cups.

His partnership with Rio Ferdinand is among the best to grace England’s top flight, with Vidic remembered for his no-nonsense style of defending.

But it would seem that despite his obvious qualities on the pitch, the centre-back was a difficult character to deal with behind the scenes at Old Trafford.

Rooney says Vidic would stop talking to Man United teammates

In the latest episode of Stick to Football, Wayne Rooney reflected on his time at United.

The Englishman claimed that Vidic would often stop talking to teammates after being involved in arguments with them.

“I would speak to everyone but remember Vidic. He was a nightmare,” Rooney said. “He would have an argument with someone and I remember he didn’t speak to Giggsy for six months.

“He didn’t speak to Patrice. He would have an argument with someone and then wouldn’t speak to them.

“I had an argument with him one time and he was going down the same route and I just said grow up, we’re teammates. He was captain at the time!”

Rooney’s Vidic claim a surprise

Vidic was named as United’s permanent captain back in 2010 after regularly wearing the armband while Gary Neville struggled with injuries.

Given the fact that the defender was the club captain, it is a surprise to hear he would ignore players after arguments.

As captain of United, you’d have expected Vidic to lead by example and maintain relationships with his teammates.

With that being said, it didn’t negatively impact United’s performances on the pitch as they enjoyed plenty of success while the Serbian wore the armband.
