Harry Maguire has named the Manchester United teammate who he believes would have the best statistics from training, insisting that he is always doing extra work in the gym.

It has certainly been a difficult campaign for Manchester United fans to take many positives from, with Erik ten Hag’s men registering their lowest ever finish in the Premier League.

It would be no surprise if a number of players were making their final appearance for the club in the upcoming FA Cup final, if they have not done so already.

But there are going to be some names who stick around at Old Trafford, and perhaps one of those who will play a role in the club’s immediate future is Scott McTominay.

The Scotland international is not exactly a superstar name or a headline-grabber, but he is someone Erik ten Hag has put a lot of faith in, even handing him the captain’s armband on a few occasions this season.

And it seems that he is someone helping set the example around Carrington, with Harry Maguire telling talkSPORT that he would pick the 27-year-old as the player who probably has the best statistics in training.

“I think I’d always go with Scott McTominay, it’s probably not surprising people, but he trains brilliantly and yeah, he covers big distances and work his socks off. Always in the gym doing extras, so I’d go with Scottie,” he said.

Manchester United may face a difficult decision when it comes to McTominay this summer.

He does have his limitations, but he is someone who has scored seven league goals this year and can play in a variety of positions, with ten Hag even using him up front at the end of the season.

So unless United really are planning a massive clear-out, you would imagine that they would be keen to keep McTominay this summer.

But there may be a problem with that, with Richard Keys claiming that McTominay is one of only a handful of United players who could attract significant bids this summer.

West Ham bid £30 million for McTominay last summer, so he does appear to be on the radar of other clubs.

It seems that some would feel that he would be a big loss to Manchester United if he got the green light to leave.
