‘He should do better’: Gary Neville expected more from £26m Tottenham player in tonight’s loss to Man City

Tottenham Hotspur fell to a 2-0 defeat to Manchester City on Tuesday night, a result which ended Spurs’ Premier League top-four hopes.

Ange Postecoglou’s charges were very much in between a rock and a hard place on the night, as victory for them would’ve given Arsenal the advantage in the title race.

Tottenham played well for the most part, but City had too much for them in the end as Erling Haaland scored twice in the second half.

Bernardo Silva threaded a pass into the path of Kevin De Bruyne, who got in ahead of Radu Dragusin and squared for Haaland to slam home on 51 minutes.

Then, in second-half injury time, Pedro Porro brought Jeremy Doku down in the box for a penalty, and Haaland sent Guglielmo Vicario the wrong way.

Tottenham’s front line wasn’t especially effective on the night, with one Spurs player receiving criticism from Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville.

Substitute Dejan Kulusevski had a chance to get Tottenham back in the game in the 78th minute as space opened up for him to shoot from James Maddison’s short corner.

However, the £26million man lifted the ball well over Stefan Ortega’s bar, and Neville didn’t like what he saw from him.

“Just because of who it is and the strength of his left foot, you feel he should do better,” Neville said on Sky Sports.

That miss aside, Kulusevski wasn’t bad on the night, as he almost forced a shot through Ortega’s legs earlier on in the second half.

The 24-year-old then looked to test the Man City second-choice keeper in the 80th minute, and on another day he could’ve had a number of goals.

In the end, there probably won’t be too many Tottenham fans especially gutted about any of their players’ displays or indeed the result, considering what it means at the top of the table.
