Mobility is so important for any midfielder in the Premier League in this day and age.

Premier League football has sped up so much over the past 15 years, and any player who is lacking pace can struggle.

This has been a huge talking point as of late as Casemiro’s legs look to have gone and he’s being exposed at Manchester United.

Speaking on Stick to Football, Gary Neville has been discussing Casemiro and how he can possibly still play a part at United in the future, and he’s stated that the Brazilian could potentially still have a part to play at Old Trafford if he follows Jorginho’s lead at Arsenal.

Indeed, Neville pointed towards Jorginho as a player who has managed to sustain himself at the top level despite being quite immobile, claiming that Casemiro could play a similar role if he’s surrounded by the correct players in the right system.

Jorginho a good example for Casemiro

Neville spoke about the Arsenal midfielder and the Manchester United star.

“Jorginho is a good example [for Casemiro]. Jorginho can’t run, he is better on the ball, but he can’t run. He was finished at Chelsea, everyone said he can’t run,” Neville said.

“He goes to Arsenal and he looks a beautiful player in that Arsenal midfield with Declan Rice one side and Odegaard the other, with that centre-back partnership. You can play in that position and not run.”

Manchester United need to reshape their midfield

Neville is right, Casemiro can probably still work in this midfield in the right system, in the same way Jorginho does at Arsenal.

However, if that is to happen, Manchester United need a squad restructure.

As good as Kobbie Mainoo is, he isn’t the most energetic player in the world either, while there isn’t much support from the wide areas in terms of tracking back or covering ground either.

It may not be a coincidence that Casemiro played his best football for United last season alongside Fred in the midfield, a player who could run all day, despite his other shortcomings on the ball.

Jorginho has Declan Rice alongside him in the middle of the park, and perhaps United need someone like that to help mask Casemiro’s shortcomings.
