Guinea Defeats Super Eagles 2-0 in AFCON 2023 Friendly

The Super Eagles faced a setback in a friendly match against Guinea’s Syli National, losing 2-0 in Abu Dhabi on Monday. Talkfooty.com.ng reports.

In the starting lineup were Samuel Chukwueze, Moses Simon, Umar Sadiq, and Alhassan Yusuf.

On Sunday, the Eagles convincingly defeated a club side in Abu Dhabi with a score of 12-0 in a test game.

The Eagles had their initial goal-scoring opportunity in the 9th minute, but Samuel Chukwueze failed to connect with a pass.

Two minutes later, Moses Simon delivered a free-kick, but Chidozie Awaziem couldn’t connect with a header.

In the 13th minute, Simon attempted a shot, but his effort was blocked by the Guinea defense.

Despite dominating the early part of the game, it was Guinea who took the lead in the 14th minute through Aguibou Camara.

The Eagles had a chance to level the score as a foul on Umar Sadiq led to a penalty, but Simon’s effort was saved in the 20th minute.

Sadiq came close in the 27th minute with a powerful header that just went over the bar.

With three minutes remaining in the first half, Chukwueze’s attempt on goal went wide.

Three minutes into the second half, Awaziem almost equalized on 47 minutes but was denied by the Guinean keeper.

Despite their efforts to get back into the game, Guinea doubled their lead on 64 minutes thanks to Facinet Conté.

Simon attempted to make amends for his earlier penalty miss, but his shot was saved by the Guinea keeper.

In the 73rd minute, Jose Peseiro made three changes, with Omeruo, Onyedika, and Awaziem making way for Calvin Bassey, Alex Iwobi, and Frank Onyeka.

With eight minutes remaining, Simon had another close opportunity but was denied by the opposition keeper.

In the 83rd minute, Peseiro made another three changes, with Joe Aribo replacing Yusuf, Ahmed Musa coming in for Chukwueze, and Lookman taking the place of Simon.

The Super Eagles are scheduled to arrive in Lagos on Tuesday night for a send-off party with state Governors and officials before departing for Cote d’Ivoire on Wednesday.
