Marc Guehi is reportedly eager to stay with Crystal Palace until the summer transfer window, aiming to enhance his chances of securing a spot in England’s squad for Euro 2024, TalkFooty reports.
The 23-year-old, a product of Chelsea’s academy, has impressed since departing Stamford Bridge in 2021, accumulating nearly 100 appearances for Palace and establishing a regular role as backup in Gareth Southgate’s England squad.
While several clubs, including Chelsea, Manchester United, Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur, and Bayern Munich, have shown interest, Guehi is said to be committed to remaining at Palace in January to preserve his Euro 2024 aspirations.
Despite having earned nine caps for England, Marc Guehi faces tough competition for a starting spot in the national team due to the abundance of talented center-back options.
The 23-year-old is determined to secure his place in Gareth Southgate’s squad and believes staying with Crystal Palace until the summer transfer window will give him the best chance.
Palace manager Roy Hodgson expressed satisfaction with Guehi’s performance, noting his continuous growth since joining the club. While acknowledging Guehi’s potential recognition in the England setup, Hodgson emphasized that the final decision rests with Gareth Southgate.
Palace is not inclined to part ways with Guehi, as he remains under contract until 2026. The club is even considering offering him a new contract with a substantial salary increase to acknowledge his consistent improvement.
With recent contract extensions for players like Eberechi Eze and Michael Olise, Palace aims to retain its promising young core for an extended period.
