Former Premier League player Ben Foster now thinks he has the perfect solution for Arsenal’s transfer plans this coming summer.

Just days after Sunday’s disappointment, Mikel Arteta is probably already locked into his planning for next season.

The Arsenal boss and Edu Gaspar are said to want to conclude their business early again this summer, having players in place for the start of pre-season.

That was certainly a successful ploy last year given both Declan Rice and Kai Havertz had adequate time to settle and then thrive throughout the season.

At this point it’s certainly not a secret that Arsenal would like to add a natural goal-scorer to their squad, perhaps at the expense of Gabriel Jesus.

The Brazilian seems unlikely to leave this summer, but will surely endure a reduced role as a result of any move.

Right now it seems as if Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak or Ajax’s Brian Bobbey are the most likely candidates to arrive at the Emirates.

However, when speaking on his podcast, Ben Foster had a different candidate entirely.

Ben Foster believes Dominic Solanke would solve Arsenal’s goal-scoring woes

The pundit shared his opinion that Dominic Solanke, who has been tentatively linked with Arsenal, should be the striker they are targeting.

Foster said that Arsenal need traditional number nine, a fox in the box per say.

He explained: “Dominic Solanke, I think that will be a great fit for Arsenal I really do.

“Good in the air, physical, works his socks off, puts the ball in the back of the net. That’s what they need.”

Of course, the immediate reaction from Arsenal fans may be slightly underwhelmed – Solanke isn’t quite the superstar profile they’ve been waiting for.

However, the Bournemouth man has netted 19 times this season and responded incredibly well to Andoni Iraola’s management.

Arsenal could certainly do a lot worse, but then again Isak is a level above – the kind of player who can make the difference in the Champions League too.

It’s a delicate choice, but thankfully Arsenal fans will trust both Arteta and Edu to get it right by this point.

That being said, perhaps a Premier League midfielder should actually be the go to signing for Arsenal this summer.
