Girona’s squad planning for their first-ever Champions League campaign is already underway, and signing experienced players would certainly help Michel Sanchez’s inexperienced side in the competition. They already have Daley Blind, and in recent weeks, they have been linked with Thiago Alcantara, who will be leaving Liverpool when his contract expires at the end of next month.

Thiago could be convinced to return to Catalonia, where he had previously been with Barcelona. However, it won’t be straightforward for Girona if they do pursue a deal, as Relevo have reported that Brazilian giants Flamengo are also showing interest in the 33-year-old midfielder.

Thiago is already in talks with Flamengo, and he has been offered an enticing project. This certainly leaves Girona on the back foot, and if they are to make a move, it will surely have to come in the very near future. It remains to be seen whether they can pull this one off, but if so, it would be a real coup.
