Mason Greenwood made a move to Spain on transfer deadline day, securing an initial season-long loan deal with Getafe.

This decision followed Manchester United’s reversal on reintegrating him into the first-team squad amid allegations of attempted rape, assault, and controlling and coercive behavior, and Greenwood has made a notable impact with seven goal contributions in 13 appearances so far.

While the 22-year-old’s contract with Manchester United extends until 2025, with an option for an additional year, the club was previously exploring a potential free transfer before his temporary move to Getafe.

Getafe president Corres has now disclosed the club’s belief in Greenwood, expressing an interest in making his stay permanent. He stated, “We have not talked about price.

We have talked about looking at the situation and seeing what they propose because there has also been a change of shareholding there at Manchester [United].

It is still too early to consider either continuing for one more season or that they will propose a price, and we will commit the whole [of the contract] because we have a percentage and to buy the rest.”

Expressing strong confidence in Mason Greenwood, President Corres mentions, “I believe a lot [in Greenwood]. From here, we continue to work periodically, we continue to meet with Manchester [United] to see if they are happy.

The truth is that they are happy with the treatment, not only from the fans of Getafe but also from the whole Spain. Now we have to keep on defending him.

He didn’t play for 16 months, and I think that in January, February he will be able to get the rhythm. He will give us satisfaction.”

Greenwood, currently enjoying his time in Spain, has garnered attention with impressive performances. Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Atletico Madrid have observed him, along with Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund showing interest.

While a return to United remains a possibility, the final decision on Greenwood’s stay or departure hinges on Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s formalized investment and the appointment of the club’s new footballing department. Stay tuned for updates on Greenwood’s future.
