Cadiz were due to travel to El Salvador to take part in a tribute match this week, but their trip has been cancelled after the plane carrying them was forced to make an emergency landing.
The Yellow Submarine were due to attend the unveiling of a statue of legendary player Magico Gonzalez this week, and then take part in a friendly with the El Salvador national team on Thursday. However just minutes after the chartered flight took off from the airport at Jerez de la Frontera, the plane was forced into an emergency landing at Sevilla airport due to a mechanical fault which meant one of the engines was not functioning, as per Diario AS.
Veteran Alex Fernandez declared that at one point the thought crossed his mind that their lives might be in danger, although teammate Chris Ramos called it a small fright. President Manolo Vizcaino apologised for the cancellation of the trip, and declared that Cadiz would stay true to their duty and return to El Salvador at a later date. The airline were unable to find an alternative solution to the plane they were on.
