Tottenham are set to welcome five new members of staff this summer in order to help Ange Postecoglou in the data science and analytics department.

Spurs have parted ways with five long-standing members of their scouting and insights office as part of an ongoing overhaul.

Ian Broomfield, Augusto Benito, Colin Jackson Alessandro Sbrizzo and Dave Butler have all found themselves on the chopping block.

As detailed on the club’s recruitment portal, Spurs are now looking to hire a lead data scientist, data engineer, recruitment analyst, first team scout and lead scouting insights analyst.

And the new faces will Postecoglou in an area which he has previously admitted is not his strong point.

What has Postecoglou said about scouting and data?

The Australian manager, whose side are hanging on by their fingernails in the race for the top four this season, leaves data to the experts.

As quoted by the Glasgow Times during his time with Celtic, the 58-year-old confessed: “The one that gets me is XL because that’s all my clothes.

“I’ve got no idea, mate. The analytics thing is well beyond me. Like you, I went through my schooling with a pen and paper.

“That’s where the future of a lot of scouting and player identification is going. These young guys are much better skilled at – and schooled in – getting the right information, then filtering it and putting it in a form that you and I can understand.”

How will this affect Spurs’ summer transfer plans?

The overhaul of the scouting department is being led by Scott Munn, who was appointed Spurs chief football officer in March last year.

He has since appointed former Villa chiefs Johan Lange and Rob Mackenzie as technical director and chief sout respectively.

Data and analytics are central to how both men operate, and the five new additions in this department will have a significant impact on Spurs’ approach in the transfer market.

The North London side have already been linked with a number of new additions ahead of the window opening in June.

They have reportedly ‘moved forward’ in their pursuit of 21-year-old Bologna defender Riccardo Calafiori, while TBR Football has exclusively revealed that they have also been offered Barcelona star Raphinha.
