Erik ten Hag Responds to Claims of Squad Leaking Stories Amid Manchester United’s Slow Start

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has confronted allegations suggesting that members of the first-team squad are divulging stories to the media.

Despite a promising 2022/23 campaign, the Red Devils have encountered a sluggish beginning to the 2023/24 season, marked by three losses in their initial five Premier League matches and a 4-3 defeat to Bayern Munich in their first Champions League group stage game.

Reports circulating in the English media indicate that doubts are emerging within the United squad regarding ten Hag’s tactical decisions, and there are claims of preferential treatment toward certain star players.

During a press conference ahead of United’s forthcoming match against Burnley, ten Hag addressed these reports. While he acknowledged the presence of opinions and knowledge about his players, he expressed uncertainty about whether there was an actual leak from the dressing room.

“I don’t know if it’s a leak, but I know opinions, I know my players. Everyone can make suggestions, and we are okay with it,” he stated. “At United, you have to win every game, so it doesn’t change anything. As always, it’s about how we play against Burnley. There’s no easy game, definitely not against Burnley.”

United’s on-field struggles have been compounded by off-field incidents, including criticism of the club’s handling of Mason Greenwood’s return, allegations of assault involving Antony, and disciplinary issues leading to Jadon Sancho’s separation from the first-team.

When asked if he has been surprised by the challenges he has encountered at United, ten Hag replied, “No. It’s my second year. I know it’s not always going up; you will have your gaps, and you get stronger from it as long as you stay together. That’s what we’re doing. In the dressing room, staff, all the staff, coaches, medical, everyone is united, and at United, you fight.”
