Conor Gallagher desires to extend his stay at Chelsea, but uncertainties surrounding his contract may lead to a potential January transfer, TalkFooty.com.ng reports

Gallagher’s current deal at Stamford Bridge runs until 2025, and despite ongoing negotiations for a contract extension, a resolution has not been reached. The midfielder is eager to secure his future with the club, but his contract situation might force a move in January.

Mauricio Pochettino, Chelsea’s head coach, is a strong admirer of Gallagher, evident from entrusting him with the captaincy role in the absence of Reece James and Ben Chilwell.

However, the contract saga poses a threat to his Chelsea future, potentially prompting a sale in the upcoming transfer window.

Chelsea is wary of letting Gallagher approach the final year-and-a-half of his contract, as it increases the risk of a cut-price sale next summer or a potential free transfer the following year.

Despite interest from various clubs in the previous transfer window, an acceptable offer did not materialize.

As a homegrown academy product, Gallagher’s status enhances his financial value for Chelsea and provides flexibility in the immediate transfer market.

Chelsea aims to secure a new striker in January, with Victor Osimhen of Napoli being the primary target. Additionally, the club may explore goalkeeper options, considering the uncertain form of Robert Sanchez. Mike Maignan is a potential target amid stalled contract talks with Milan.

While major sales are unlikely, Chelsea may offload fringe players due to the large senior squad. The club anticipates improved on-field performance upon the return of Christopher Nkunku, Romeo Lavia, and Wesley Fofana from long-term injuries.

Despite summer signings Nkunku and Lavia yet to debut, Chelsea acknowledges the need for significant improvements at both ends of the pitch.
