Columbus Crew’s Leagues Cup quest continues as the reigning MLS Cup champions play host to NYCFC this weekend at Lower.com Field.
The Crew are coming off a 3-2 comeback victory over current Leagues Cup holders Inter Miami. Wilfried Nancy’s team found themselves in a hole down 2-0 in the second half before Christian Ramirez and Diego Rossi turned the match around in favor of the Crew to secure their place in the Quarter-finals.
NYCFC took down one of the tournament favorites in Liga MX giants Tigres 2-1 to claim their place in the next round of Leagues Cup. Tigres’ Guido Pizarro opened the scoring in the first half but NYC responded through Maxi Moralez before Santiago Rodriguez found the winning strike late on to lift the Blues to victory.

NYCFC will be without midfielder Andres Perea as the player is dealing with a leg injury, while forward Malachi Jones also misses out due to a leg injury. Both players are expected to return to action in late August/early September.
NYCFC’s attack rivals the best in all of MLS with the likes of Santiago Rodriguez and Maxi Moralez leading the charge, but they may find it difficult to break down the Crew at their home ground.
The visitors will strike first with an early goal to silence the crowd at Lower.com Field before Rossi and Cucho Hernandez each find the back of the net late on to turn the match around and secure Columbus’ place in the Semi-finals.
Prediction: Columbus Crew 2-1 NYCFC
