Chelsea are set to offload left-back Ian Maatsen in the January transfer window, according to sources.
The 21-year-old declined a move to Burnley during the summer, despite Chelsea accepting a loan bid with a £31.5m obligation to make the deal permanent in 2024.
Maatsen has struggled for playing time under Mauricio Pochettino and, despite Chelsea triggering a contract extension until 2025, attempts to negotiate new terms have failed. The club is now open to a permanent sale, rejecting interest in a loan deal.
Manchester City and West Ham United have shown interest in Ian Maatsen, according to previous reports, and now Borussia Dortmund has joined the race for the left-back.
Chelsea’s decision to part ways with Maatsen in the January transfer window has attracted attention not only from Premier League clubs but also from Serie A sides Napoli and Roma.
Maatsen has faced challenges in securing playing time, with manager Mauricio Pochettino preferring to use Levi Colwill, a natural center-back, on the left side of the defense this season.
