Amid all of the managerial chaos at Chelsea right now, it seems the club have identified a key transfer target for their next boss.

Right now it seems as if it’s a three-horse race to replace Mauricio Pochettino at Stamford Bridge.

Leicester City’s Enzo Maresca is said to be the preferred choice of Chelsea’s hierarchy, but departing Brighton & Hove Albion boss Roberto De Zerbi is also in strong contention.

Perhaps now slightly behind the names already mentioned, it still wouldn’t be a surprise if Brentford’s Thomas Frank was handed the chance, a candidate with a glowing reputation.

Of course, Chelsea wouldn’t be doing their due diligence if they weren’t still pursuing their summer transfer plans, even if their new boss is yet to be decided.

One of Pochettino’s biggest challenges in west London last season was embedding several new faces, aiming to create a harmonious playing environment.

And perhaps his achievement in doing so, which was evident towards the end of the season, has caused the biggest frustration around his departure.

San Lorenzo full-back Agustin Giay is a ‘concrete’ target for Chelsea this summer

Working with the solid foundations Pochettino has helped build, Chelsea have now identified San Lorenzo full-back Agustin Giay as a ‘concrete’ target.

That news comes via journalist Rudy Galetti who shared the update on X.

Galetti was initially reporting that Chelsea were still following River Plate midfielder Fran Mastantuono, and added a fresh update on this Giay interest.

He shared: “Chelsea are still following River Plate midfielder Franco Mastantuono, among the priorities for Real Madrid.

“Chelsea have also approached San Lorenzo right full-back Agustin Giay, considered a concrete target for the summer.”

Scouts regard Agustin Giay as one of the biggest talents in South America

20-year-old Giay has enjoyed a strong year in the Argentinian top flight, and is now receiving a lot of interest as a result.

According to reports, the offensive right back, who could perhaps play understudy to both Malo Gusto and Reece James, would cost interested clubs around £8m.

And if comments by Giay’s agent are anything to judge by, the defender certainly has a bright future.

Speaking to Sempre Inter, after reports that Inter Milan could make a move, Giay’s agent Leo Rodriguez spoke about his client in high regard.

He claimed: “We’re talking about a young player who’s already been a starter for his club for two straight years.

“In addition to being the captain of the [Argentina] Under-20 and Under-17 teams.

“He can play at right-back,” noted the agent Rodriguez. “And at wingback. In some matches, he’s even been used as an interior midfielder.

“For me he’s perfect as a wingback in Italian and European football. He is full of running. He’s very good in one-on-one situations. He has technical quality.

“I hear from all the scouts and Sporting Directors that he’s the best wingback in South America.”

Chelsea currently have a habit of securing the best young talents on the continent, with Ecuador’s Kendry Paez already looking like he’s got world-class potential.

And when you consider the club’s recent interest in Palmeiras’ William Estevao, plans for the future are really gathering pace.

All that being said, Ligue 1 club Monaco are now interested in buying one Chelsea player.
