In a disappointing turn of events, Chelsea’s center-back, Benoit Badiashile, has encountered an unexpected obstacle on his path to recovery.

The French defender, who suffered a hamstring injury in May, is still awaiting his first appearance under the club’s new manager, Mauricio Pochettino.

Last week, Badiashile’s return seemed imminent as he rejoined team training. However, Chelsea’s head of medical and sports science, Nathan Gissing, has now revealed that the player experienced a “minor setback.” As a result, Badiashile has returned to individual training, prolonging his time on the sidelines.

Fortunately, reports suggest that Badiashile’s setback is not associated with any serious damage. The club remains hopeful that the 22-year-old defender will be able to rejoin team training during the upcoming week.

Unfortunately for Chelsea, Badiashile won’t be available for the clash against Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge this Sunday. He joins Trevoh Chalobah on the injury list, adding to manager Mauricio Pochettino’s growing concerns.

In addition to Badiashile, midfielder Moises Caicedo’s availability for the Villa match is in doubt. The Ecuadorian international missed Chelsea’s recent draw with Bournemouth due to a knock sustained while on international duty. His return to the lineup remains uncertain.

Meanwhile, striker Armando Broja, who is recovering from a serious ACL injury, is not expected to make a competitive return just yet.

Chelsea continues to grapple with a series of long-term injuries. Reece James, Christopher Nkunku, and Romeo Lavia are all unavailable for selection. Lavia suffered an ankle injury during the international break, further depleting Pochettino’s options.

On a more positive note, Noni Madueke and Malo Gusto have successfully recovered from minor muscle issues and have returned to training. Additionally, Marc Cucurella has bounced back from an illness, providing a boost to Chelsea’s squad.
