Chris Sutton has shared his prediction for the final day clash between Arsenal and Everton which could yet see Mikel Arteta’s men secure the Premier League title.

Arsenal go into the final day as underdogs in the title race after Manchester City managed to beat Tottenham Hotspur during the week.

The Gunners simply have to win and then hope for a freak result at the Etihad Stadium, where Manchester City will face West Ham. Should Arsenal secure three points, City will have to also win.

But the pressure is off Arsenal now, and they are playing an Everton side which have been safe for some time now. The Toffees will hope to hold onto 15th spot, but Brentford one place below are the only side who can swap with Sean Dyche’s men.

Chris Sutton backs Arsenal to beat Everton

Everton’s main objective has been achieved, and so, it is hardly surprising that Chris Sutton has told BBC Sport that he is expecting a reasonably comfortable Arsenal win.

“Sean Dyche is a scrapper and his Everton side are enjoying a strong end to the season. He would like nothing more than to end with a positive result here, but I cannot see past an Arsenal victory,” he said, as he predicted a 3-0 win for the Gunners.

“With 15 wins, one draw and only one defeat from their past 17 Premier League games, the Gunners don’t deserve to finish second but that is what is going to happen, and other than the Community Shield, they are going to finish trophyless too.

“Arsenal have invited players from their Invincibles side – who stayed unbeaten the last time they were champions in 2004 – to this game so they will want to put on a show for them. 

“They should have something to smile about, even if there is no title to celebrate.”

A chance to make statement for 2024/25

It would be a shame if there was not one final twist in this title race, with Arsenal and Manchester City producing outrageous runs to put themselves in this position.

Obviously, City will hope that they secure a comfortable win against West Ham, but the Hammers will be keen to send David Moyes off in some style, and some of their players would probably love to help Declan Rice round off his first season at Arsenal with a title.

In the last 10 years, Everton have won just one game at the Emirates, so everything suggests that Arsenal will do their bit.

Should City win, Mikel Arteta will view Sunday’s result as his side’s opening statement in what he hopes will be another title charge next season.
