Former PSG coach Jean Michel Larqué has disclosed that Karim Benzema is currently feeling remorseful about departing Real Madrid for Al-Ittihad.
Benzema, who joined Saudi Arabian champions Al Ittihad on a three-year deal last summer after leaving Real Madrid, had expressed his desire to conclude his career at Madrid.
“Benzema regrets. Of course, everyone does what they want, but making their departure a success was important. I remember that he had expressed his desire to finish his career at Real Madrid.
“He had the opportunity. He could have stopped walking out the big door, having brought several titles and obtained the Ballon d’Or. He was lost by joining an artificial championship.
“Sometimes I see the games in Saudi Arabia and he no longer has legs. The twilight of a career is a terrible thing. It is a losing battle. You don’t feel like it anymore. It’s a losing battle and I feel like he could have gone out the big door. He didn’t, it’s a shame. Doing one more year at Real Madrid or retiring at that time would have been boring too.”
