James Maddison is convinced Tottenham Hotspur have landed on the right man in Ange Postecoglou.

The Aussie arrived in north London last summer after delivering a domestic treble at Celtic.

Ange Postecoglou got off to a near-perfect start in the Premier League and had Spurs top after 10 games played without tasting defeat.

Things have been slightly more difficult for Postecoglou since. But after a summer where Tottenham lost star man Harry Kane following an eighth-place finish, delivering fifth and Europa League football represents a positive start for the former Celtic boss.

James Maddison became Postecoglou’s second signing at Tottenham last summer and after a blistering start, he endured a difficult second half of the campaign following an ankle injury.

But the Englishman was full of praise for Postecoglou while speaking to Sky Sports News on Tuesday.

Maddison makes Postecoglou claim

When asked if last season should be viewed as ‘progress’ for Spurs, Maddison explained why he’s convinced they are heading in the right direction under Postecoglou.

“Definitely progress,” Maddison insisted. “First season with a new manager, Spurs fans especially need to be patient.

“It’s very difficult in the first year… when do you ever see a manager come in his first year and blow everything away and win all the trophies? It’s a work-in-progress and I’m experienced now, I’ve played under a lot of managers, seen a lot of things and Ange Postecoglou is taking the club in the right direction, believe me. So, exciting future ahead for Tottenham.”

Have Tottenham improved under Postecoglou?

Based on the statistics alone, Tottenham have improved in almost every department under Postecoglou.

The Aussie guided Spurs back into Europe after the club missed out for the first time since 2009 last time out.

They finished the season with six more points than the last campaign while scoring four more goals [74] and conceding two less [61].

This is all the more impressive when you consider the fact that Spurs lost their all-time top goalscorer Kane and Postecoglou implemented a completely fresh approach in terms of style of play.
