Camp Nou construction 1 Barcelona provide update on Spotify Camp Nou return as €100m economic loss is revealed

For the last 16 months, the Spotify Camp Nou has been undergoing a rebuild. Barcelona have been playing their matches at the Estadi Olimpic in Montjuic, although sooner rather than later, they are hoping to return home.

On Monday, Barcelona held a press conference to discuss numerous matters about the ongoing project. Elena Fort, the club’s vice-president, has confirmed that the plan is still to return before the end of 2024, with an initial capacity of 66% being the plan (via MD).

“We are working to return at the end of the year, from here there are many factors. The exact day has to be modulated. In the summer of 2026, the project should be finished – that is our forecast.

“The move to Montjuic has meant losing €100m. We need income and we have to find a balance between the affordable prices for the members who access the passes and the way to operate the new stadium.”

Joan Sentelles, who is director of operations for the Espai Barca project, also spoke on the possibility of Barcelona hosting an increased number of concerts at the new Spotify Camp Nou, similar to what Real Madrid have done at the Bernabeu. However, there are no plans for this at the current stage.

“The forecast is not to do more concerts than those that were done before at the Camp Nou. The soundproofing is much improved compared to the old stadium and the few concerts that are held will have a low sound impact.”

Fort also spoke on this matter.

“Concerts are a possibility to exploit Spotify, but they are not the basis. We decided not to have a lawn to host concerts on a regular basis. It is not our base nor do we change our minds because of the circumstances that other clubs are experiencing.”
