Barcelona manager Xavi has expressed admiration for the playing style of Argentine midfielder Giovani Lo Celso and is reportedly keen on acquiring him in the January transfer window.
However, the club faces two significant obstacles that could hinder the potential signing.
SPORT reports that Tottenham is unwilling to part ways with Giovani Lo Celso, particularly after his impressive performances against Aston Villa and Manchester City, where he scored a goal in each match.
Additionally, James Maddison’s injury absence is a factor that may discourage the North London club from allowing the Argentine midfielder to leave.
Barcelona is facing salary space constraints and may not be able to accommodate another signing after registering Vitor Roque, who is set to join the team earlier than initially planned. The club can register Roque using 80% of Gavi’s salary, as Gavi is sidelined with a long-term injury.
Since Maddison’s arrival from Leicester in the summer, Giovani Lo Celso experienced a reduction in his playing time at Tottenham.
However, Ange Postecoglou has been utilizing the 27-year-old more regularly in recent times due to Maddison’s injury. Lo Celso has featured in seven matches across all competitions and has scored twice.
