Barcelona is reportedly anxious that Pedri’s recent injury might extend his absence for an additional month, potentially causing him to miss the Spanish Supercopa.
Pedri, diagnosed with a “slight muscle injury” on December 19, initially expected to return for the semi-final clash with Osasuna on January 11, now faces fresh concerns about his fitness.
Medical staff at Barcelona do not anticipate Pedri’s return before the end of January, potentially causing him to miss matches against Las Palmas, Copa del Rey clash with Barbastro, and the Spanish Supercopa.
If sidelined until the end of January, Pedri would also miss La Liga fixtures against Real Betis, Villarreal, and Osasuna, with Alaves scheduled for the first weekend of February.
Barcelona undertaking a comprehensive review of their medical procedures due to escalating concerns regarding Pedri’s recurrent struggles with injuries.
The 21-year-old recently returned from a two-month hiatus with a hamstring problem in November, having missed over 100 days of the 2022/23 season due to various fitness issues.
With Pedri’s notable history of playing 73 games across the 2020/21 campaign before encountering hamstring problems the following year, there are lingering questions about Barcelona’s handling of his treatment.
The club officials are now expected to scrutinize and reassess the entire process governing Pedri’s management, aiming to address and resolve his persistent fitness challenges.
