The 2024 Ballon d’Or and 2024 Ballon d’Or Feminin awards are set to be handed out a star-studded ceremony at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris.

As always, there’s been plenty of fanfare and intrigue as to who will the win top prizes, with particular mystery surrounding the men’s award won for the eighth time in 2023 by Lionel Messi.

Vinicius Junior was the frontrunner in many people’s estimation, owing to a superb year for both Real Madrid – whom he won La Liga and the Champions League with – and with national team Brazil.

But in a shock late turn of events, it appears Manchester City midfielder Rodri will now get the nod to win the award – Vinicius, teammate Dani Carvajal and the entire Real Madrid camp expected to skip the awards ceremony in its entirety after learning of the outcome.

Barcelona’s Aitana Bonmati is expected to win the Ballon d’Or Feminin for the second successive year – continuing the Spanish dominance of the award first started by her club and international teammate Alexia Putellas.

Elsewhere, Lamine Yamal is the hot tip to win the Kopa Trophy, while Erling Haaland, Harry Kane and Kylian Mbappe are vying to be named the winner of the Gerd Muller award which recognises the best striker.

Follow along with 90min for live updates of every placing as the evening unfolds.

No players or coaches are involved in the Ballon d’Or voting process. Instead, 100 journalists from FIFA’s 100 highest-ranked countries cast votes, and different points are awarded for each placing within the top ten on a sliding scale.

The player who accumulates the most points from the votes is the winner of the Ballon d’Or. In the unlikely event of a tie, the player who accumulates the most first-place votes will win the award.

The Ballon d’Or ceremony will be shown for audiences across the world for free on the L’Equipe YouTube channel, although some geo-restrictions may apply. In the United Kingdom, this year’s ceremony will also be broadcast live on TNT Sports and their streaming platform discovery+.

The ceremony will begin at 19:00 GMT, 20:00 CEST and 14:00 ET in the United States and will be co-hosted by French-British journalist Sandy Heribert and former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba.

It’s not known exactly when the Ballon d’Or ceremony will conclude but the event will likely take place over several hours.
