It was announced on Thursday that Julen Agirrezabala has extended his contract with Los Leones for another three seasons, keeping him at the club until 2027. The 23-year-old performed excellently during Athletic’s Copa del Rey run last season, which culminated in them winning the competition for the first time in 40 years.
Agirrezabala is widely considered to be a top talent, and he can find himself very unfortunate to be stuck behind one of La Liga’s best goalkeepers – who is also Spain’s number one going into Euro 2024.
With Athletic Club playing in the Europa League next season as a result of their Copa del Rey success, Agirrezabala could be in line for more appearances in the 2024-25 campaign, should Ernesto Valverde opt for his number two on those occasions.
