Arsenal can now sign a striker for just £10m this summer – one Mikel Arteta and Edu looked at before buying Gabriel Jesus in July 2022.

There are rumours that the Gunners want to offload the Brazil international this summer following a tough 2023/24 campaign, in which he scored just four goals in 27 Premier League appearances.

In fact, there was even talk of Arsenal wanting to sign a new striker regardless of what happens with Jesus, as the likes of Viktor Gyokeres, Ivan Toney and Alexander Isak are linked.

Now – however – an option Mikel Arteta and Edu previously considered bringing to Arsenal is on the market for just £10m…

Arsenal have bargain striker option in Alvaro Morata

A story from the Mirror in June 2022 claimed that Arsenal were going to bid for Alvaro Morata if Jesus ended up moving elsewhere.

There were genuine fears that the South American would move somewhere other than the Emirates Stadium, with Tutto Mercato Web adding that Arsenal even bid for the Spaniard after fearing they had missed out on the Brazilian.

Of course, Jesus was eventually signed in a £45m deal from Manchester City, but as Arteta targets a revamp of his frontline – Eddie Nketiah is also at risk of being sold – a bargain move for Morata has now become an option.

Reliable Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that the Spain international can be signed for just €12m (£10m) this summer thanks to a newly active release clause.

Decent depth for Mikel Arteta

Presumably, Arsenal fans will be furious if Morata arrives as the marquee striker signing, given the fact he is now 31 years of age and struggled in the Premier League with Chelsea.

The Madrid-born forward netted just 16 goals in 47 Premier League appearances for the Blues.

However – should Arteta and Edu sign a younger, more exciting option like Isak or Gyokeres as well – a £10m deal for Morata certainly shouldn’t be looked down on, due to his impressive 2023/24 campaign.

The Atletico Madrid No.19 just scored 21 goals in 47 appearances last season, so based on Arsenal’s previous interest and his new release clause, this is one to watch – in our view at least.
