The Spaniard is also still keen to bring in a goalkeeper to rival David Raya and it’s just emerged that the recruitment team have their eye on an Argentinian shot-stopper.

Arsenal keeping tabs on Leandro Brey

According to Boca Notiicas, Arsenal are keeping close tabs on Boca Juniors goalkeeper Leandro Brey ahead of the January transfer window.

The Gunners are keen to bring in competition for David Raya and Brey appears to have been identified as a long-term successor.

The 22-year-old has overtaken former Manchester United man Sergio Romero in the pecking order at Boca and is attracting interest from across Europe.

Nidal Khattar has labelled Brey as a ‘penalty king’ for his heroics in the Argentine Cup semi-finals earlier this week.

Arsenal should prioritise a striker in January

After landing Neto from Bournemouth during the summer, the need for another goalkeeper certainly isn’t urgent.

So instead, Arsenal should allocate those funds towards a striker – which is an area they’re perhaps the weakest in.

Kai Havertz has operated well in that role, but it’s evident if Arteta’s men are to level up, they need a specialist number nine.

Sporting’s Viktor Gyokeres would be the perfect option.
