Following Jurgen Klopp’s last game as Liverpool manager, Gary Neville has now claimed he’s only in fifth place in the Premier League history books.

New Liverpool boss Arne Slot certainly has a lot to live up to in the coming years, and fortunately he has inherited a much stronger squad than his predecessor.

Jurgen Klopp crafted a brilliant team over the years, working so effectively in the transfer market to sign players like Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.

Perhaps Andy Robertson will always be hailed as the biggest bargain of his tenure, a player who redefined the role of a left-back in the Premier League.

That being said, it’s Klopp’s trophies that will be remembered most, his Champions League and Premier League triumphs.

Although, when sharing his thoughts on The Overlap newsletter, Gary Neville didn’t quite put the former Liverpool manager right at the top of the history books.

Neville hailed Klopp’s accomplishments, but still thought there were four managers with bigger achievements in the Premier League.

Gary Neville says Jose Mourinho has a bigger legacy then Jurgen Klopp in the Premier League

Neville rebuffed the suggestion that Klopp wasn’t among the league’s greats, and put him in the top five of all-time.

He explained: “Some tried to suggest that, having only won the single Premier League title, Klopp wasn’t among the pantheon of greats.

“Yet, given what he was up against in City and given he achieved it on budgets and net spends that were skinny compared to the best, there is no doubt in my mind.

“In terms of achievement, Sir Alex, Guardiola, Mourinho and Wenger may rank ahead of him.

“But he sits quite comfortably in that company, among the top five in Premier League history.”

Of course, it is hard to argue with that list, four of the most decorated names in world managerial history.

Perhaps Sir Alex Ferguson and Pep Guardiola are the two battling for top spot, with Jose Mourinho and Arsene Wenger not too far behind.

Although he doesn’t state as such, Neville may have already subconsciously put that list of Premier League greats in order.

Given his humility, Klopp probably wouldn’t argue with Neville on this one, instead just proud of his illustrious years as Liverpool boss.

All that being said, Liverpool are now said to be targeting a Brazilian signing who could have their own lasting impact.
