Kylian Mbappe is one of the best players in world football.
The Frenchman has been a dominant force in the game for years at this point, and at the age of just 25, the best may still be yet to come.
Mbappe is likely to be on the move this summer, and while he’s not on his way to the Premier League anytime soon, there have been plenty of conversations about what Mbappe is worth and how much any club should give up to sign the Frenchman.
Speaking on TalkSPORT, Darren Bent has been discussing the idea of his team, Arsenal, signing Mbappe, and he says that he actually wouldn’t swap Declan Rice for Mbappe if offered the chance.
Darren Bent wouldn’t swap Declan Rice for Kylian Mbappe
Bent spoke about this hypothetical swap deal.
“Would you give up Kai Havertz and Declan Rice?” Bent was asked.
“No,” Bent said.
“Would you give up Declan?” Bent was asked.
“Absolutely not,” Bent said.
“What, you wouldn’t swap Declan Rice for Kylian Mbappe,” The host concluded.
Declan Rice and Kylian Mbappe are different players
Comparing Rice and Mbappe is like comparing chalk and cheese.
These two players are so different, and we can understand Bent’s perspective here.
If Arsenal were to lose Rice, the entire balance of the team would be thrown off, and while Mbappe would add something special to the attack, Arsenal are doing fine in that regard as it stands.
Real Madrid famously made a big mistake when selling Claude Makelele to sign David Beckham with Zinedine Zidane saying: “Why do you need to add a gold layer on a Bentley, when you have already lost the engine?” And the same logic would apply if Arsenal let Rice go to sign a player like Mbappe.
Rice is one of Arsenal’s most important players, and it’s hard to imagine they would swap him for any player in world football at the moment.
