Wayne Rooney and Gary Neville have now shared what they expect to happen in Sunday’s Premier League clash between Arsenal and Everton.

The Gunners have to beat the Toffees and hope West Ham can somehow find a way to defeat Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

Even a draw would suffice if Mikel Arteta secures three points over Sean Dyche, as Arsenal currently have a goal difference of 61 to Manchester City’s 60.

So, what are Wayne Rooney and Gary Neville expecting to happen at the Emirates Stadium? Let’s take a look…

Arsenal backed to win

The pair of Manchester United legends are backing Arsenal to pick up all three points against Everton on Sunday.

Speaking on The Overlap, Neville claimed that Arsenal have the “tougher” game in comparison to Manchester City, but still expects the Gunners to do their bit in the finale of the Premier League title race.

Rooney then added that he thinks it’ll be a similarly cagey affair to the recent 1-0 win over Manchester United.

Neville said: “I think Arsenal will win, but I think it’s tougher. They have got a lot tougher (of a) game than City have got. I think I will go 1-0.”

Rooney then added: “I think they (Arsenal) will do similar to the United game. 1-0 or 2-1. Actually, I can’t see Everton scoring. 1-0 or 2-0.”

Whatever happens, Mikel Arteta can be proud

Even if Arsenal end up finishing second again this season, Arteta should be proud of his squad.

For example, the Gunners made history in becoming the first Arsenal side to record 27 wins in a 38-game Premier League season with last week’s 1-0 win at Old Trafford, which is an incredible achievement.

Furthermore, Arteta has a number of young players who will – surely – only become hungrier to succeed if Manchester City win the title this season, such as Declan Rice, Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard.

It is hardly a last dance situation where the spine of Arsenal’s squad are nearing the end of their best years – far from it – although one experienced name could depart.

Therefore – whatever happens on Sunday – Arteta and Arsenal fans have a lot to look forward to in future.
