Robbie Mustoe has suggested that he has to mention how outstanding one Arsenal player was against Bournemouth on Saturday, insisting that he is silk on the ball.

Arsenal kept the pressure on Manchester City with a 3-0 victory over the Cherries at the Emirates, with Bukayo Saka, Leandro Trossard and Declan Rice scoring for Mikel Arteta’s men.

It was yet another professional performance from the Gunners, who remain top of the Premier League table as the games continue to tick down.

Unlike last year, several players appear to be stepping up their form, rather than feeling the weight of the pressure as Manchester City continue to ask questions.

And perhaps no player has been more impressive of late than Martin Odegaard, with the Norwegian relishing the task of trying to captain Arsenal to Premier League glory for the first time in 20 years.

Martin Odegaard outstanding in Arsenal win

Odegaard appears to have found another level in recent weeks. Some of his passing has been absolutely superb. And he is someone who never shies away from getting onto the ball and trying to make things happen.

No player completed more passes against Bournemouth than Odegaard, according to Whoscored. And speaking on The 2 Robbies, Robbie Mustoe suggested that the 25-year-old’s performance at the weekend deserves more credit.

“Martin Odegaard, who, by the way, is a player that I definitely want to mention. He’s like a band conductor, conducts everything in midfield, absolutely silk on the ball, particularly in the first-half, I thought was outstanding,” he said.

Gunners skipper now one of the most important players in the Premier League

It was always going to be incredibly difficult for Odegaard to replicate his totals from last season, when he scored 15 league goals and contributed seven assists.

But the £30 million man has had another brilliant campaign, with eight goals and eight assists in the top-flight. Odegaard has been as important for Arsenal as Kevin De Bruyne has been for Manchester City.

And the scary thought is that there is still time for Odegaard to improve further in the years to come.
