Liverpool fought their way past Tottenham yesterday as they won 4-2 at Anfield in Jurgen Klopp’s second to last game at home.

The Reds had raced into a four goal lead inside the hour before Heung-Min Son and Richarlison scored late on to make the game a touch more nervy than necessary.

However, in the end, it was Liverpool who got over the line and ensured Tottenham are now on a run of four Premier League defeats in a row.

For Liverpool yesterday, there were a number of good performances. Harvey Elliott impressed and scored a great goal, while Mo Salah got himself another goal.

But as well as those two, Dutch forward Cody Gakpo also seemed up for the game as he proved a pest from minute one before scoring a fine header in the second half.

And speaking about how good Gakpo was in the game, former Liverpool goalkeeper Chris Kirkland was full of praise for the £35m signing.

Cody Gakpo shines for Liverpool against Tottenham

Speaking on the official Liverpool FC podcast, Kirkland noted Gakpo’s performance and labelled him as being ‘superb’ of late.

“I thought Gakpo was superb today. Do like him further forward, I know he’s played deeper at times but he’s so sharp and he picks a few passes out in and around the box as well,” Kirkland said.

Gakpo has got himself 15 goals this season despite coming off the bench in the majority of his appearances.

However, over the course of the season those 15 goals have proved important and given Liverpool were competing in four competitions at one point, Gakpo’s performances and goals have been vital.

Going into next, with a fellow countryman in Arne Slot coming in as manager, Gakpo will be hoping to make a big impression and play an even bigger role.

Further, Darwin Nunez is struggling for form and with question marks over his immediate future, there is a chance for Cody Gakpo to really assert himself in this Liverpool team.
