Liverpool saw off Tottenham today despite two late Spurs goals setting up a more nervy finish than anticipated.

Liverpool cruised into a two-goal lead at half-time before scoring twice more just after the break to make it 4-0.

However, Richarlison came off the bench to spark Spurs into life for the final 15 minutes and the striker scored and set Heung-Min Son up to set up a frantic finish to the game.

In the end, though, it was Liverpool who got the three points and in doing so, condemned Tottenham to yet another Premier League loss under Ange Postecoglou.

For Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp, it was just the result they needed after a dismal few weeks saw the Reds dip out of the title race and also exit Europe.

But the players stepped up today and key to the win over Tottenham was the performance of young midfielder Harvey Elliott.

And speaking about the former Fulham man, Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville had some kind words for Elliott and what he brings to the table.

Gary Neville lauds Harvey Elliott as Liverpool beat Tottenham

Speaking on Sky Sports about the goal and performance from Elliott, Neville was full of praise for the Englishman’s impact on the team.

“A big smile from Harvey Elliott and his manager. He just looks like one of those players that’s popular with everyone and he’s certainly popular with everyone at this ground now. A gorgeously curled strike. What a goal! He brings a positivity to everything that he does,” Neville said.

Harvey Elliott at bargain buy

The Reds snapped Elliott up as a teenager and were ordered to pay just £4m to sign him in the end,

Looking back now, it seems Liverpool have got themselves a real bargain.

Elliott’s performances of late have been that of a player who is getting more and more comfortable as a regular in this Liverpool team.

Over the course of the season, his baseline stats might not look so good. But eight assists and four goals is not something to be sniffed at for a midfield player who in the main, has come off the bench.

Indeed, Elliott has made just the eight starts in the Premier League so when you take that into consideration, he’s had a fine season really.

And still only 21, Elliott could well be a key player for Arne Slot to build around next term.
