Martin Keown has criticised one Tottenham Hotspur player for his performance against Chelsea last night.

Spurs suffered their third defeat on the bounce in the Premier League yesterday.

Mauricio Pochettino has now done the double on his former club, and his side completely deserved the victory at Stamford Bridge last night.

Headed goals from Trevoh Chalobah and Nicolas Jackson sealed the win for Chelsea, and Tottenham‘s hopes of qualifying for next season’s Champions League have been dealt a huge blow now.

Keown delivered his verdict on Spurs’ performance, and he wasn’t happy with one player.

Martin Keown says ‘missing’ Heung-min Son should’ve played in a different position

Heung-min Son is Tottenham Hotspur’s most important player.

The South Korean was given the additional responsibility of captaincy at the start of the season, and it has to be said that he has stepped up.

Son has scored 16 goals and provided nine assists in the Premier League so far this season. 25 direct goal contributions in 31 games is a phenomenal return.

However, against Chelsea last night, Son didn’t have a great game.

The 31-year-old started on the left wing, with Richarlison playing through the middle. Neither player got anywhere near scoring – they didn’t even have a shot at goal.

Martin Keown watched the game last night, and he claimed that Ange Postecoglou should’ve started Son through the middle – just behind Richarlison.

The Arsenal legend further said that Son looked like a spectator last night.

On talkSPORT this morning (May 3, 2024, 7:42 am), Keown said: “He seemed to go missing last night, didn’t he? He played out on the left wing. I was thinking maybe he should play down the middle last night off Richarlison.

“Kulusevski was playing in that role, and again he didn’t seem to, he wasn’t slick, there wasn’t any rhythm, and Son almost just seems to surrender his game, doesn’t he?

“Like he is watching like a spectator.”

Where Heung-min Son should play vs Liverpool

Tottenham take on Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday in what is expected to be a hugely entertaining game.

Liverpool haven’t been in great form recently. They have dropped points against the likes of West Ham, Crystal Palace and Everton, and they really do look beatable.

However, Tottenham will have to be at their absolute best to get anything from the game at Anfield, and Heung-min Son will once again be their main man.

We agree with Martin Keown above. With James Maddison struggling with form and Dejan Kulusevski not doing much either, starting Son just behind Richarlison makes sense.

Whether Ange Postecoglou will share the same view, however, remains to be seen.
