Erik ten Hag has called on his Manchester United squad to “grow up” and be more robust defensively.
Despite goals from Rasmus Hojlund and Marcus Rashford, the Red Devils conceded soft goals to Richarlison and Rodrigo Bentancur.
Ten Hag emphasized the need for increased physicality in defensive situations and expressed disappointment in the lapses.
Speaking about owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s presence, Ten Hag highlighted the team’s fighting spirit but stressed the importance of defending set-pieces more effectively.
Despite the defensive concerns, he acknowledged positive aspects, praising the growing partnership between Rashford and Hojlund.
“We have seen glimpses [of Rashford being back to his best]. The co-operation with Hojlund is growing,” said Ten Hag.While disappointed with the soft goals conceded, Ten Hag sees improvement and glimpses of the future with emerging talents like Alejandro Garnacho, Kobbie Mainoo, and Hojlund.
The return of players like Lautaro Martinez, Casemiro, and Luke Shaw adds strength to the squad.
