The extension comes as Kerr faces a period of rehabilitation following an ACL injury suffered during Chelsea’s warm weather winter training camp in Morocco.

The 30-year-old, boasting two WSL Golden Boot awards and the current FWA Women’s Footballer of the Year, had an existing deal set to conclude at the end of this season.

Speculation had arisen regarding her future, with murmurs of a potential return to the United States, where Kerr had previously played for the Chicago Red Stars in the NWSL before joining Chelsea in 2020.

However, reliable sources indicate that a contract extension with Chelsea until 2025 has been agreed upon.

This agreement ensures that Kerr will continue playing for Chelsea in the upcoming season once her ACL rehabilitation and recovery are complete.

Moreover, the extended deal includes an option for an additional 12 months, extending until 2026.Interestingly, Kerr’s fiancée, USWNT midfielder Kristie Mewis, recently inked an 18-month contract until 2025 with fellow WSL side West Ham United.

The couple’s relationship has been prominently featured in the Netflix series ‘Under Pressure,’ highlighting the journey of the United States team during the 2023 World Cup last summer.

Mewis had shared in an episode that she is ‘over the long-distance thing.’As things stand, the contracts of both Kerr and Mewis with London clubs are set to expire simultaneously at the end of June 2025, not accounting for the additional year option that Kerr holds with Chelsea.

In the short term, Kerr’s injury deals a significant blow to Chelsea’s aspirations, aiming to secure a fifth consecutive WSL title and clinch the elusive Champions League trophy.
