Borussia Dortmund Chief Provides Update on Jadon Sancho Talks with Man Utd

Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke expresses confidence in reaching an agreement for the loan return of Jadon Sancho from Manchester United.

The two clubs are in discussions regarding a potential loan deal for the 23-year-old winger, who has faced challenges in finding his top form since his £73 million transfer from Dortmund to United in 2021.

While initial reports indicated progress in the deal, ongoing negotiations include details such as the loan fee and other financial aspects.

Watzke, providing an update during Dortmund’s training camp, emphasizes that the decision now rests with Manchester United.

“The issue is no longer with us,” he told reporters. “We are in good communication with Manchester United. I am cautiously optimistic.

“We want to bring [Sancho] over, but we are not yet at the point where we can announce results.”

Jadon Sancho, who rose to prominence at Borussia Dortmund after leaving Manchester City in 2017, garnered widespread acclaim with 50 goals and 64 assists in 137 games.

Manchester United secured his services in 2021 for a substantial £73 million. However, Sancho has struggled to replicate his earlier success, contributing only 12 goals and six assists in 82 games for United.

In the current season, Sancho found himself on the bench for the initial three matches and was subsequently omitted from the squad for the 3-1 loss to Arsenal.

Manager Erik ten Hag accused him of subpar training standards, a claim refuted by Sancho on social media. Despite calls from teammates to reconcile, Sancho has opted against repairing the relationship with Ten Hag and is now poised for a return to Germany.
