Mikel Arteta Acknowledges Signing a New Striker Is Not Realistic for Arsenal

Arsenal faced their third consecutive defeat, exiting the FA Cup with a 2-0 loss to Liverpool on Sunday, extending their poor form to just one win in the last seven games.

A significant contributor to their struggles has been a decline in goal-scoring efficiency, with players like Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Martinelli, and new signing Kai Havertz falling short of last season’s impressive performances.

When questioned about the possibility of signing a new striker in January, Arteta expressed, “At the moment, it does not look realistic.

What we need to do now is stick behind those players, give them some love, train them, and make sure they visualize something very different to what is actually happening now.”

Emphasizing the focus on improving existing players, Arteta highlighted the importance of supporting the team and working with the available resources.

Arteta openly expressed concerns about a potential psychological issue within Arsenal, particularly after a game where numerous chances were created but failed to result in goals.

“Probably it has [become psychological], especially after today – more than it was against Fulham or West Ham before that.

That’s why I think we need to reset,” he admitted. Arteta emphasized the importance of resetting mentally, acknowledging the challenge faced by the team.

Despite being out of both the FA Cup and Carabao Cup, Arsenal’s aspirations for silverware this season now hinge on success in either the Premier League or Champions League.
