Amid injuries to key defenders Romero and van de Ven, Postecoglou has often relied on full-backs Emerson Royal and Ben Davies as a makeshift central partnership.
However, Davies suffered a potential muscle injury against Burnley, further limiting defensive options.
Bayern Munich is reportedly eyeing a move for Dier, who has had minimal appearances this season.
When asked about the possibility of parting ways with Dier after Davies’ injury, Postecoglou responded affirmatively, stating, “Yes.” He also clarified Dier’s absence from the matchday squad, attributing it to the 29-year-old nursing an injury.
“Absolutely zero [idea],” Postecoglou informed ITV regarding a potential departure for Dier. “Eric didn’t train yesterday; he was injured, so he’s not selected, and that’s it.”During the post-match press conference, Postecoglou faced inquiries linking Dier’s absence to Bayern’s interest.
Responding assertively, he stated, “Separate issue mate, but don’t question my integrity. When I say he’s injured, he’s injured. He didn’t train yesterday.
Ask him, but he was injured. Got nothing to do with anything else.”Pressed further, Postecoglou emphasized, “I’ve got no idea.
When you ask me whether he’s injured, he’s injured, like I didn’t make that up. If he wasn’t injured, I’d say to you he wasn’t selected, it’s easy for me to say.
He’s injured, and in terms of anything else happening, not on my radar and not that I’ve heard of. If there is something, I’m sure we’ll hear of it.”
